About Claude Heron

I remember it like it was yesterday. I was just a teenager when I started scouting – one decision which changed my life forever. I was graced with the opportunity to discover hidden gems I never knew existed in France, from camping to hiking, fishing, snow-shoeing, and more. Scouting taught me the value of teamwork, independence, perseverance, taking initiative, being innovative, and staying positive no matter the obstacle.

Over Easter, I would camp in Paris’s adjacent provinces for 8 days at a time. During the summer holidays, I would camp for 3 weeks locally and internationally – from the lowland to the forest to the mountains. I acted as Patrol Leader when I was 15, going on to accept the role of troop assistant at age 18. I went on to serve in the military from January ’65 to April ’66 – 2 months in France and 14 in Algeria.

As I transitioned into adulthood, I started to crave more – a hunger that saw me try my hand at plunging, skiing, running, and cycling. (I’ve also been a self-proclaimed Yogi since 2006). When I was 59, I embarked on a trek in Nepal – a truly life-changing experience. Since my retirement, I have more time than ever to feed my hiking passion. Back in 2014, I started my Nordic Walking journey. I never miss a week. In fact, I assist with defining hiking routes and guiding groups of hikers – new and intermediate – something I’ve been doing for over a decade.

In 2019, I was off to Tyrol, Austria, for a week-long Nordic Walking escapade. I never grow tired of finding fauna and flora, sightseeing, turning back time to explore history, or engaging in individual and team sports. It keeps me young.

At the same time, a desire to fulfill a spiritual need has become essential, that’s how I have been involved in the regular practice of yoga for more than 15 years.

My Life Motto

Discovery gives me fuel, curiosity gives me soul-food, adventure gives me oxygen, and new challenges give me youth. I have so many outdoor passions, I’ve lost count, but one thing remains constant – my desire to leave my footsteps in as many spaces as possible.
If you think adventure is dangerous, try routine. It’s lethal.
