Timex Group B.V. is one of the best-known American watch companies. Timex's U.S. headquarters are located in Middlebury Connecticut and it has substantial operations in China, the Philippines and India and full scale sales companies in Canada, the UK, France and Mexico.
The company began in 1854 as Waterbury Clock in Connecticut's Naugatuck Valley, known during the nineteenth century as the "Switzerland of America." Sister company Waterbury Watch manufactured the first inexpensive mechanical pocket watch in 1880. During World War I, Waterbury began making wristwatches, which had only just become popular, and in 1933 it made history by creating the first Mickey Mouse clock under license from Walt Disney, with Mickey's hands pointing the time.
During World War II, Waterbury renamed itself U.S. Time Company. In 1950 the company introduced a wristwatch called the Timex. Over the next three decades, Timex was sold through a series of advertisements which emphasized its durability by putting the watch through "torture tests," such as falling over the Grand Coulee Dam or being strapped to the propeller of an outboard motor, with the slogan "It takes a licking and keeps on ticking." With the help of former Olympic broadcaster, spokesman John Cameron Swayze, sales took off. The company later became Timex Corporation, then Timex Group and, to date, has sold over one billion watches.
The company has remained very competitive and the Timex brand continues its dominance through present day. Its primary market remains the United States and Canada, although the Timex brand is sold worldwide due to its ability to capitalize on its strong brand image and reputation for quality.
One of the most successful and important features available on many Timex watches is the Indiglo backlight system. Indiglo is a brand name of Indiglo Corporation, solely owned by Timex for licensing purposes. Timex electroluminescent lamps, branded Indiglo, were introduced in 1992 in the Ironman watch line. They were an immediate success. The Indiglo lamp uniformly lights the surface of the Timex’s watch dials in a manner that makes the dial read very easily in many different light settings. In some newer watches the Indiglo backlight only lights up the numbers, rather than the entire LCD display, which is achieved by means of a specialized film that inverts the LCD transmissivity.
Today, Timex Group products are manufactured in the Far East and in Switzerland often based on technology that continues to be developed in the United States and in Germany. With a large and varied line of watches, Timex has the style for everyone. From the locker room to the board room, there is a great Timex style time-piece for you.

The watch is a bit big, it is bigger than the average Casio G-Shock but fits well on wrists 6 inches and bigger. The compass is accurate once you calibrate it right. It is recommended to calibrate it in the area or for the area you want to use it. If you calibrate it near your pc or electrical power cables where there will be electromagnetic interference then this would obviously affect the accuracy. The compass has the feature to input the declination for the area you are in so that you can use easily with a map to navigate.
All in all at the price, this is a really great watch for everyday use. you can wear it and forget it. Much more functional for me than the expensive $200+ ABC watches as I don't need the additional features, so no sense in paying for what I don't need
Update: February 23rd 2015.
I have been using this watch for a couple of weeks now and it works well as an EDC watch for me. It does run a little slow, I have see a drift of about 3 seconds in about 2 weeks. this is not a big deal for me as I can sync it manually to a GPS clock whenever the drift gets to about 5 seconds.
I've accidentally hit it against some things, and the rubbery plastic material it's made out of allows it to be perfectly fine. You would have to try really hard in order to see any damage or actually damage the watch. It's a really good material in that it seems really durable against wear, weather, and life. The only downside is that when it's hot out, this material is not breathable so the skin underneath the watch may start to feel the lack of air if you're outside in the heat for a while wearing the watch.
Some people have talked about not being able to see the numbers. I have never run into this problem. If you're in a really dark place and you don't use the light, it will obviously be harder to see, but even being outside in a bright environment I could still see the numbers on the watch clearly. Maybe if your vision was deteriorating, it could be a problem, but the numbers are fairly big and easy to read.
Color: I can see why some people are confused as to the color of this watch. It is definitely in between a gray and a green. Sometimes I'll look at it and it will look gray and other times I'll look at it and it will seem green. I originally wanted to use RIT dye to color it black, but I've actually decided that because of its unique color I do not want to modify it at all.
Value: After looking into the Casio G Shock, I ended up buying this one and am perfectly happy with it. I am not looking to upgrade to the Casio or anything like that. Currently this watch is about $70 plus shipping and I really think that it's worth it. As I mentioned above, it seems very rugged and I really do believe this watch will last for years. I'm considering buying a second one in case mine breaks because I've heard that they can be somewhat hard to find, and I really like this watch.
Usability: The only complaint I have here is that I wish I could program the buttons to have other functions (ie, one button is an alarm, another button is the compass, another is hydration, etc). Although I wish I could program them, the current setup was easy to adjust to. The compass was somewhat hard to calibrate just because it was a delicate process, but the instructions were clear and easy to follow.
Editor's Note: I am posting this review for my boyfriend, who does not have an Amazon account.

Straps break but can be replaced by third party straps. This was disappointing because after looking for another strap I contacted customer service and they just said 'sorry'.
The design is bad because it can't be replaced. The watch itself has been discontinued from what I understand. So if you are looking to buy this watch just know that the strap can/will break as is apparent from a lot of other reviews on this product.
Other than the strap, good watch to have!
