High-Performance SteelA budget friendly, reliable, top-of-the-line Chinese produced steel, 8Cr13MoV steel has carbon and slightly less nickel for hardness and edge retention. Kershaw’s precision heat treated 8Cr13MoV steel strongly takes and holds an edge and offers wear resistance that can withstand damage from both abrasive and adhesive wear. 8Cr13MoV is a value blade steel featuring high performing characteristics. |
Attractive Blade CoatingTitanium Carbo-Nitride blade coating produces an attractive, sleek black or gray blade coating that increases the blades hardness and helps to maintain a razor-sharp edge. Increasing the overall lifetime of the blade, Titanium Carbo-Nitride’s thin film coating achieves enhanced abrasive wear resistance and erosion resistance. The vacuum process is non-toxic and environmentally safe. |
Fast DeploymentUsing a torsion bar to move the blade out of the handle, Kershaw’s revolutionary SpeedSafe Assisted Opening system enables smooth, secure, fast one-handed blade deployment. Apply manual pressure to the flipper or thumb stud with a light push or pull back to overcome resistance of the torsion bar, and the blade opens smoothly and locks into place for confident handling without premature closure. |
Secure Locking SystemKershaw’s frame lock design makes knives safer, securer, sturdier and quicker for one-handed blade deployment. The knife handle, or frame, has two metal plates on either side of the blade, and when open, the lockbar butts up against the blade’s backend to prevent blade closure. To close the knife blade, push the frame to the side to unlock the blade and fold the blade back into the handle. |

One-Handed FlipperKnives with SpeedSafe open have two options for one-handed blade deployment. To activate the smooth, instant open, user can push a thumbstud or press a flipper. The flipper on SpeedSafe assisted knives is easy to operate by both left- and right-handed users. And, once blade swings open and locks into place, flipper either disappears for aesthetics or remains visible for added finger protection. |
Durable HandleStainless steel contains chromium to equip knife handles to withstand rusting and provide corrosion resistance. Stainless steel offers durability and is often used in combination with another material to make for an easier grip. Offering excellent durability, stainless steel knife handles often incorporate etching, patterns, ridges or lines for a less slippery grip. |
Convenient PocketclipKershaw designs pocketclips to fit specific knives according to their weight, intended end use, size, style and hardware. Some knives have multiple carry options, others are more streamlined. The 4-position pocketclip allows tip-up or tip-down carry on both the right and left sides, providing users the most versatility. Proper use of the pocketclip promotes safety and efficiency while using knife. |

This Kershaw 155TI Cryo SpeedSafe Folding knife is a fantastic knife. It comes very sharp but I have had it long enough that I have had to sharpen it and it holds the sharp edge fairly well. It is appropriately sized to conceal or carry in your pocket, whatever verbiage you want to use, in the state I live in. I suggest you check your local laws if you are unsure. It will prevent you from going to jail and that is a great thing.
I have several knives and I carry this Kershaw knife every day. This Kershaw Cryo knife fits in my pocket well and doesn't drag my pocket down much. There is a nice clip that holds it to your pocket if you want to carry it that way. It opens with one hand easily and is able to be closed one handed if you are careful. It has a locking frame which holds the blade very stable for use. I love this particular knife.
The finish is nice and hasn't worn at all in the 2 years I have owned it. Well worth the price you pay for it. I have seen many other knives in this price range and they are not normally of this high a quality.
I have read that this is a Chinese manufactured blade, although I am not sure. Supposedly the US manufactured blades are superior strength and quality but I have to tell you I cannot imagine it is significantly better for the average persons’ usage.

In the first place, the action on this knife is incredible. I'm used to my assisted EDC knife (now discontinued) but this was great. No matter if you're using it as a flipper or using the thumb studs, it just feels solid. You can snap it open very quickly and I was surprised myself at how natural it was. I loved the blade shape as well. Like many others, I'm a huge fan of Rick Hinderer knives and his designs. I was concerned that this would be a little small but after looking at it, those fears have been assuaged. The edge was sharp and I've got no complaints about it. Overall, the knife just looks really cool too. If we're being honest, a good 90% of the time, looks are what drive our purchases and this one is a looker. The grey coating is a good touch and hopefully it helps protect the knife from some of the elements it will get exposed to. For anyone who would dare complain about weight, it's perfect. The heft on it is great and it gives you a good, very solid feel in the hand. The ergonomics felt right and overall, it's a very comfortable knife to use.
There are going to be some inherent issues with a knife in this class, however. To me, two things stood out. My first complaint was that the frame lock on this knife should have some jimping just to give you a reference in your hand for when you're closing it. I'm not the biggest fan of frame locks but the Cryo's was very comfortable, minus that one factor. The other addition I might like to see is a lock for the blade while it's folded. On an EDC knife, where there's a chance that it will get dropped or something might happen in the pocket, I appeciate it if that blade stays shut until I need it. I don't know how often that's going to happen, but it's something that I really do appreciate. In addition, I will mention that the knife is made in China and while there can be good quality control there, it's still China. I would love to see this blade manufactured in the United States.
So despite the limitations of the Cryo, I'm going to give it 5 stars because it is THE high-value EDC blade. In the time since I started researching it, this knife has become my default suggestion for folks who are looking for a good, inexpensive knife to carry with them and increase their capability. If you pay peanuts you get moneys, so the Cryo was definitely a pleasant surprise in terms of qualtity.
The knife is a downsized and (significantly) cheaper version of the Zero Tolerance ZT350 (which is my main carry knife).
The blade comes with an OK factory edge, which is just OK (for snobs) or just fine (for it's intended market). I used a Lansky diamond sharpener (look at my other reviews for details) to put a much better edge on the blade. The Cryo steel (8Cr13MoV) is not as durable/tough as the 350 steel (S30V), but it sharpens to a good edge and has reasonable edge retention. Opening boxes and cutting copper wire can dull the Cryo edge sooner than the 350. Restoring the edge on the Cryo is much easier due to the softer steel.
The knife handle is easy to grip if you have medium or small hands. I have average guy hands, and when I grip the knife my pinky ends up on that little flat area at teh base of the handle. The pocket clip doesn't seem to get in the way of gripping the knife.
The assisted opening works quite well, allowing for very fast one handed opening. One handed closing is easily accomplished. When I received the knife, I found that the blade pivot was overtightened at the factory causing incomplete opening. I disassembled the knife completely and regreased with a teflon based lubricant. The knife blade now has zero side to side wobble, and is perfectly centered between the handle slabs.
The carry clip is initially overtight (almost impossible to clip/unclip to my pants pocket. I carefully bent the clip curve until it gently holds to the pocket. The carry height is very deep in the pocket, so there's very little of the knife visible.
Overall, the knife as delivered (Ok edge, blade not centered between handles, assisted opening not opening reliably) would get a 3 stars if I had paid full price. At the discounted price, it gets 4 stars. After sharpening and adjusting, it gets 5 stars. It's one of my favorite knives now. For the price (and if you're mechanically inclined enough to some adjustments), I highly recommend it for everyday carry.
